Inland Areas Begin a Cooling Trend in Southern California

Breezy and cooler this weekend***

Northwesterly flow aloft will increase the next few days as a deep trough develops over the Northern Rockies and Great Basin. While any precipitation associated with this system will remain well north of the area, cooler air will spill into the area behind this system. High temperatures this weekend will be 5-10 degrees cooler with valley highs easing back into the 80s Saturday and Sunday. Northwesterly winds will increase this afternoon and again Sunday afternoon. Winds will be in the 20-30 mph range along the central coast, the Kern County Mountains, Banning Pass and the eastern Cleveland National Forest during the afternoon hours this weekend. The windiest conditions will likely be over the Tehachapi’s into the Antelope Valley where gusts to 45 mph will be possible. Tonight, and again Sunday night, local north winds of 15-25 mph will be possible across the Santa Ynez Range in Santa Barbara County and the I-5 Corridor. Early next week, an upper level low may retrograde into Northern California.
