High Temps and Dry Conditions Increase Fire Potential In California
DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:
Large fire potential will continue to be elevated the next few days due to hot and dry conditions. Dead fuel moisture is below normal, except for the highest elevations of the Sierras. Large diameter fuels will now support fire growth during peak heating hours. Expect high energy release components and burning indices the next few days with very rapid rates of spread where fuels and terrain are in alignment. The highest potential for the development of a large fire the next few days will continue to be in the Sierra Foothills where near record high temperatures and a heavy load of bug-killed timber is present. Later this week, the highest likelihood of a large fire may shift into the valleys and urban interface regions where afternoon sea breezes will be present. Expect moderate initial attack activity to continue throughout the region during the forecast period.
